Kybella Prep

TWO WEEKS BEFORE KYBELLA

  • Avoid nuts, seeds, fish, fish oil, NSAIDs, blood-thinning medications, and supplements. This will significantly help minimize bruising, bleeding, and swelling. Talk to your primary care physician if you are on blood thinners, regarding the safety of stopping and restarting these medications. We do not recommend that patients on life-saving medications stop their medications in order to have any cosmetic procedures performed.

  • Arnica supplements are recommended 1-2 weeks prior to injection to help post-injection bruises.

  • Avoid alcohol consumption at least 48 hours before your treatment.

  • Bring a scarf, turtle neck, or mask for after your treatment in order to camouflage any noticeable swelling after the procedure.

  • Plan your appointment well in advance of special events, parties or weddings for at least 4 weeks or more. Swelling and adverse reactions can last up to 4 months post-treatment.

DAY OF INJECTIONS

  • Make sure to eat and drink before your treatment. It is not uncommon for patients to pass out or get lightheaded during their injections. Having good blood sugar and being hydrated will make it less likely that you will feel queasy during your treatment.

  • Shaving. Men with beards should shave the area under the chin as it can interfere with the doctor’s ability to mark the skin for injection, potentially displace the trajectory of the injection needle, or distort the true appearance of the jawline.

  • Minimize make-up and lotions in and around areas where you are having injections. Our medical assistants will remove any make-up prior to treatment. You can bring make-up with you to apply immediately after your treatment.

  • We recommend 20-30 minutes of icing the treatment area prior to your injections, as well as a topical numbing cream application. Our topical numbing cream requires 20-30 minutes to be fully effective, so we ask that patients arrive early to their appointment to allow enough numbing time.

  • Reserve your next appointment. Kybella® injections are typically repeated 4-6 weeks after your initial session. Most of our physicians book out months ahead and we do not double-book patients. We always recommend that you schedule your next appointment before leaving.
